WPFFA Seniors had their trials the weekends of 18-20 Nov 2022 and 3-4 Dec 2022. In the gallery section, you can view more photos. The anglers did very well and enjoyed every minute! We'll post updates of the second trials in December.
Two Western Province Senior Anglers, Daniel Factor and Garth Nieuwenhuis, were recently part of the SA Protea team at The World Champs 2022 in Spain. South Africa ended in 11th place for the Team Results.
Three Western Province Junior Anglers, Stefan von der Heyden, Zane Kruger, and Marthinus Mauritz, were part of the Youth Protea Team at the 19th Fips-Mouche World Championship in Trentino.
Western Province A-Team again brough home the winning cup in March for the SAFFA A Nationals. This was hosted by Eastern Cape and held in Barkley East in the Eastern Cape. Daniel Factor took Gold place, Luke Panell Bronze, and Matt Rich won the fly tying competition.
On 6 November 2021, Duggie Wessels – the WPFFA Disability Coordinator, organised a Wheelchair Disabled Fly Fishing Event at Le Ferme. It was a great turnout, as he only had two to three weeks to organise this event. There were 10 disabled anglers. Below are some photos of the event.
From 6 – 9 October 2021, WPFFA successfully hosted the SAFFA Youth Nationals 2021 in Ceres, Western Cape. Overall, 287 fish were caught and safely released. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport for their support and funding. We’d also like to thank the sponsors from the event which included Amazing Pies and X-Factor Angling.
On 28 February 2021 in collaboration with The Cape Piscatorial Society (CPS) and Winelands Fly Fishing Association, Western Province Fly Fishing Association arranged a river clean-up, advertised using mailing lists, WhatsApp groups and social media, provided cold drinks, safety gloves and heavy-duty trash bags. The clean-up was a success with more than 35 garbage bags of trash removed, including plastic bottles, chip packets, alcohol bottles (beers and spirits mostly), nappies, food waist and packaging.
On 11 October 2020, Duggie Wessels – the WPFFA Disability Coordinator, organised a Disability Fly Fishing Event at Le Ferme. It was a great turnout, as he only had two to three weeks to organise this event. There were 15 disabled anglers (14 in wheelchairs and one with a sight disability), 11 assistants and 21 spectators.
